VANCOUVER - On Saturday, August 23rd, GainLine Africa will be holding its first West Coast charity touch rugby tournament.

 

GainLine Africa is a Canadian based, sports for development charitable organization that promotes rugby as inspiration for youth in Northern Uganda, where a decades long civil-war has resulted in the death of many, the kidnapping of children, and more recently, lacking infrastructure and social activities, which are crucial in order to rebuild a society where more than half of the population is under the age of 16.

 

Not only is the tournament an opportunity to support rugby in Uganda, it will provide rugby players of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to compete against some of Canada’s best players.  Current and former national players signed up to participate in the tournament include: Ben Grant, John Moonlight, Mike Filifau, Nick Trenkel and Tony La Carte.   Representative sides from many Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island clubs have also registered and are supporting the event.

 

Registration is now open, and costs $300 per team.  To register, please e-mail gainlineafrica@gmail.com.  For those unable to compete – GainLine encourages you to come out and enjoy a beverage and watch some top tier rugby.
