Dave Brown Memorial Thunderbird Rugby Endowment

 

On March 9th, 2019, UBC Rugby lost its General Manager Dave Brown to an extended battle with cancer. Dave was instrumental in helping steward the program and reconnecting with alumni, significantly growing support for rugby at UBC.
 

On behalf of the UBC Rugby Alumni Board, President Greg Obertas is very pleased to announce the creation of the Dave Brown Memorial Thunderbird Rugby Endowment in honour of the contributions Dave made to rugby not only at UBC, but provincially and nationally across Canada.

Dave was a selfless man who deeply respected and cared for the game and his players. This endowment will ensure future UBC Rugby players will be given the opportunity to succeed and achieve their goals in the classroom and on the field, just as Dave would have wanted. The endowment was created with leadership gifts from Greg Obertas, Andrew Bibby and Peter Bull of $25,000 each. The alumni board has set a goal of a $250,000 endowment to provide awards to UBC Rugby players on both the Men’s and Women’s teams in perpetuity.
