WAYS TO SUPPORT UBC THUNDERBIRD RUGBY:
To discuss giving options such as gifts of shares, major gifts and gift recognition or bequests and estate planning gifts, please contact Gareth Bowley, Program Manager Development and Alumni Engagement
Support Thunderbird rugby’s Return to Excellence by becoming a member of the Thunder RenewalMonthly Giving Club. Even small monthly gifts will make a big difference and it keeps you regularly connected to the program. Maximize your giving with a monthly gift on your credit card or from your bank account and your funds will be used for priority projects on an ongoing basis with 100% of your gift going to rugby.
Each year, thunderbird varsity athletes raise money to support their participation in sports and academics at UBC through the Bird Backer program. If you would like make a donation in recognition of a specific athlete, you can conveniently do so via online or directly through the athlete (they may provide you with a donation link for their personal giving page). Bird Backer provides individual athletes much needed funding to help cover costs associated with their sport.
Aeroplan Beyond Miles
A new way to donate to the UBC Rugby Program is through the Aeroplan Beyond Miles donation program. You are now able to donate your Aeroplan points directly to the UBC Rugby Program, and you will help reduce travel costs for the program and players. Over the next two seasons UBC already has plans to travel to California for the annual 'World Cup' series versus the University of California, and in 2015 the team will be traveling to Oxford University to particpate in the Top 8 Universities Tournament.
THUNDERBIRD RUGBY ENDOWMENT
The UBC men’s rugby program receives funding annually from the proceeds of the Thunderbird Rugby Endowment fund. This fund has a principal of more than $1 million and is managed along with all UBC endowment funds by UBC Investment Management Trust Inc. The rugby endowment currently provides more than $30,000 annually (and growing!) to put towards priority projects such as scholarships, operations, coaching, equipment, travel, etc. The Thunderbird Rugby Association encourages supporting the endowment annually through purchasing seats at the Millennium Breakfast to see that your gift is matched. A report on the rugby endowment fund performance is produced annually and is available through contacting Gareth Bowley at UBC Athletics.
Make a one-time, outright gift to support the team via online and you’ll get a tax receipt delivered to your inbox while helping the team build resources. As with ThunderRenewal, 100% of your donation will go directly into the program account to be put towards priority projects including student athlete support, equipment and travel and program operations.
