2013 Christmas Edition

On and Off The Field

Dear Donors, Alumni, Parents and Players,

As 2013 draws to a close we can look back with some satisfaction with regard to our goal of becoming the best University rugby program in North America.

From a player perspective we,

· Increased the number of teams from 3 to 4

· Added a permanent 7’s program

· Birds and Braves are at the top of each of our respective divisions

· The Totems won the 3rd division “Shield”

· Won the first of the two “Boot” games against UVic

· Increased our depth of players and talent

· Strongly affiliated our club with Rugby Canada

From a Donor perspective,

· Increased our ability to provide scholarships

· Increased and quantified the financial security of the UBC Rugby Program

· Provided the ability to add the Las Vegas 7’s tour to our travel itinerary

From an Alumni perspective,

· Updated our ubcrugby.com website to reflect current and upcoming news and events

· Provided for the first ever Alumni event at the Las Vegas 7’s Collegiate tournament Jan 23-26

· Engaged more Alumni

From the parents perspective,

· We are providing your son’s with the ability to be a part of the best University rugby program and giving them the best education

In the spring 2014 our goals are,

· Win the second game of the “Boot” series against UVic Jan 18 (2:30pm, Wolfson Field)

· Win the World Cup against Cal Berkeley (February away game – Alumni support requested!)

· Win our respective division finals in May.

With all of your support and diligence, we are well on our way to accomplishing our goals.

We look forward to seeing you on the sidelines (“Boot” game) and in Las Vegas (See ubcrugby.com, Alumni Events to register)

OTHER EVENTS

UVIC

Come and join us on January 18th, 2014 as we host the Vikes in the second of our home and away match for the Wightman “Boot”. For the first time since 1997 we will take a 13 point lead into the second game. This is a game you do not want to miss so get your derriere’s out to the match and hang around post-match sampling chilly but refreshing ale after the game.

California

February 2014 will see the World Cup kick off in Berkeley. A small and dedicated fan base have made the trip down to San Francisco in the past years and the UBC rugby program would like to expand upon this. We invite you to come down on the 15th of February for the 1:00 pm kickoff. Our alumni and parent group will be organizing the UBC Tailgate party before and after the game. We plan on not only winning the game on the field but also putting on the best tailgate in the lot! We look forward to seeing you cheer on the Birds and soak up some California sun.

UBC Alumni Reunion Dinner

Please set aside Friday March 21st as we are going to have our alumni dinner at the UBC Golf Club. We have dropped the price significantly. No it is not $250! No it is not $200! No it is not $150! Yes it is $125 per person. Can you believe that! For all you guys out of town, get back into Vancouver and make a weekend of it as Sunday, March 23rd we host Cal. KO at 1:00pm

Check out our new website! www.ubcrugby.com

Sincerely
